Import options

Products can be imported into Pio Admin from two main areas: the Inventory Overview and the Imports section.

The steps for uploading and importing files are the same in both locations. For this example, we will be using the Inventory section for product imports.

Download the CSV template

To support the import process, a CSV template file is provided and recommended for all file uploads.

Navigate to Inventory Overview and select 'Import' next to your Profile icon in the upper right corner to open the Import window and select 'Download CSV template'.

You can use this template to prepare the product import with the required columns. Open the file in Excel, Google Sheet, or your preferred spreadsheet app.

Example of the CSV file template:

CSV file requirements

The CSV format requires commas to be used as separators, and the product file must include the following columns for each row:

  • SKU
  • product_name

Additional columns can be included, and the content will be imported if matched with similar fields in Pio.

NOTE

We strongly recommend that you also include images when importing products. This will greatly enhance the app experience for the operators. If you don't have product images hosted online already, there are many easy-to-use services that will help you host it in the cloud.

The maximum number of SKUs per file is 10.000.

Name Description
sku* All products must have a unique SKU [Required]
product_name* All products must have a name [Required]
image_url Include the URL to the product image [Optional, but recommended]
category Include the product category [Optional]
brand Include the brand of the product [Optional]
barcodes Include the barcode of the product [Optional]

Uploading Product files

When the CSV file is ready to be uploaded, simply drag it into the upload area or select 'Choose file' to locate it on your PC. Multiple files can be selected and uploaded simultaneously.

The upload process will parse the files and validate the content. If any errors occur, the file will be highlighted as "Invalid data".

Preview before importing

A preview of the file content is available when the file is uploaded. Select the eye icon to view the uploaded file and check for errors before importing it to Pio.

It is recommended to use the preview to confirm the file has been uploaded and parsed as expected. This is a good opportunity to see if anything would need to be adjusted before importing the products into Pio.

Import the CSV file

Select 'Import' when the file is ready to be added to your product catalog in Pio.

Connected stores

All products in Pio must be connected to a Store (Order Channel). When importing products using CSV files, the products are automatically linked to the "Internal" store. The store can be found by selecting a product from the Inventory Overview and click the '1 Store' button:

View recently uploaded files

The Recent tab lists uploaded files that are not imported yet.

Deleting uploaded files

Files can be deleted if they fail during upload. Select the trash can to delete it:

Remove imported products

If a product is imported incorrectly, it can be removed from the product catalog. To delete a product, go to Inventory Overview and select the product you want to remove. Click the button called '1 store'. This will open a modal where the connected store is show, and there is an option to 'Remove from this store'.

If the product holds any stock in Pio, the product will not disappear from the product catalog until the stock is cleared out.

Imported product files archive

After a product CSV file is imported, it is archived. The file can still be viewed in Pio Admin by navigating to Imports and select 'Imported':

Select a file to view the full content:

View the file history of Product Imports

All the imported files are available in the Imports section of Pio Admin. Navigate to the Imports section and select 'Imported' to find a file and check the content and its status.

If a file had errors, it will still be available in the Imports history. Navigate to the 'Failed' tab to view files with errors.
