Pio Super User training

Super User training is a required training for warehouse personnel who are responsible for grid access, system monitoring and basic system operations. A member of the Pio Operations team or the Distributor delivers the training, and it must be completed before go-live.

Super Users play an important role in keeping the warehouse running safely and efficiently. They are trained to understand the system, access restricted areas safely, and perform controlled interventions when needed.

IMPORTANT

Only trained Super Users are permitted to access the grid and perform the procedures covered by this training.

Safety essentials

Safety is the most important part of the Super User training. Super Users learn how to safely access and work around the Pio system.

The training covers:

  • Grid door and lock
  • Robot door lock
  • Robot fence and guard rails
  • Ladder and safety harness
  • Service Trolley
  • Emergency stop button
  • LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out)
  • General rules for safe grid access

Understanding the system status lights

The Pio light tower gives a quick indication of the current system status. Super Users learn how to interpret the different signals and understand when action may be required.

🟢 Green, steady: System running
🟢 Green, blinking: System starting, stopping or in service mode
🟡 Yellow, steady: System stopped
🔴 Red, blinking: System error

Customer Console and Service PC

The Customer Console is an app running on the Service PC and provides controlled access to the system logs, incident handling and controlled stopping and starting of the system.

The training includes:

  • Navigating the Overview, Robot, Grid, Port, Bin and Interface tabs
  • Understanding the Console Viewer (the grid "map")
  • Starting and stopping the system
  • Safely unlocking and opening doors
  • Checking the Event Log and Incident Actions
  • Switching between Viewer and Console modes

Port operation and safety

Super Users learn how to safely operate the Port and what to check if an issue occurs.

Safety topics include:

  • The plastic wall barrier
  • Securing long hair, jewellery and loose clothing
  • Keeping hands clear of the port insides
  • Using the emergency stop when required
  • Safe removal of the port furniture
  • Understanding the three bin positions: open, closed and middle
  • Maximum bin weight of 30 kg
  • Never removing bins manually

Basic troubleshooting includes:

  • Checking for physical obstructions
  • Using the Retry button
  • Power cycling
  • Exiting the current flow through the Pio app
  • Reviewing relevant logs in the Customer Console

Robot operation and recovery

Super Users receive an introduction to how the robots work, how to recognise their status and how to perform controlled manual operations when required.

The training covers:

  • Robot movement and key components
  • Grippers, sensors, antenna and emergency stop
  • Robot control panel
  • Online, offline and manual mode buttons
  • Track shift, lift and gripper control buttons
  • Robot status LEDs and what they indicate

Super Users also learn about robot recovery mode. When an issue occurs, the robot may enter Recovery mode and attempt to correct the issue automatically. If recovery is unsuccessful, the system may stop and manual intervention can be required.

During the practical training, Super Users are shown how to:

  • Set a robot offline
  • Change tracks
  • Park a robot with all wheels down
  • Move a robot to the exit cells
  • Return a robot online when the issue has been resolved

If the issue cannot be resolved at the robot's current location, the robot can be moved to the red exit cell marked with Robot Entry Area and set as Parked in the Customer Console with assistance from Pio Support/your Distributor.

WARNING

All robots on the grid must have a valid position and be in either Planner, Console or Parked mode for the system to know where they are. Service mode is not a valid status for a robot that is currently on the grid.

Service Trolley

The Service Trolley is to be used when accessing and moving on top of the grid. Walking inside the grid is strictly prohibited.

Super Users receive practical training covering:

  • Safe operation of the Service Trolley
  • Correct use of the safety harness
  • Designated trolley parking areas
  • Safe access to the grid

A live demonstration and test runs are included as part of the training.

Service Tower

The training also introduces the Service Tower and the robot swap concept, including principles for safely working around it.

Topics include:

  • Service Tower control panel
  • Unlocking and opening the robot door and side hatch
  • Correct lift position
  • Robot swap concept
